7th Grade State Champs!
This past weekend the Southern Middle school Seventh Grade basketball team won the middle school state championship at KBA in Lexington, KY. The tournament started off this past Friday with the state’s top 54 teams. In pool played the Warriors defeated Beechwood 57-34 and Graves 55-21. On Saturday during tournament play the Warriors eliminated Summit View 56-33 in first round play, McCreary 62-19 in second round, and Northern 50-38. In the Final Four game Southern went on to defeat Knox Central 51-40 and in the state finals the Warriors defeated Clinton County 61-39 to captured the schools first ever 7th grade State Championship. The Warriors overall record improves to 38-2.  Danny Butt and Steven Fitzgerald both picked up all-state tournament honors along with Hunter Cromer named tournament MVP. Since KBA opened its doors in 2001 they have never had the same school to win two state championships in the same year. SOUTHERN MIDDLE SCHOOL WARRIORS 2011-12 6TH GRADE KBA Back to Back “STATE CHAMPIONS”
This past weekend the Southern Middle school sixth-grade basketball team won the middle school state championship at KBA in Lexington, KY. The tournament started off this past Friday with the state’s top 48 teams. The Warriors defeated Kenton County 71-31 and Beaumont 44-12. On Saturday during tournament play the Warriors eliminated North Oldham 45-11 in first round play, West Jessamine 45-12 in second round, and Foley Middle 55-35. In the Final Four game Southern went on to defeat Northern 62-37 and in the state finals the Warriors defeated Jefferson County Tradition Magnet 57-29 to capture the school's second 6th grade State Championship. The Warriors overall record is a perfect 30-0.
SMS Receives Federal Gear Up grant
Southern Middle School receives Federal Gear Up grant in partnership with Berea College! This grant provides support for creating a college-going culture where all students are prepared for postsecondary education. Please meet the new Academic Specialists who will be in charge of the delivery of services for the Gear Up grant. Parents, please note, there is an informational sheet about Gear Up going home with your child's grade card.
6th Grade Girls Basketball team meet Josh Harrellson
SMS 6th Grade Girls Basketball team get to practice with former UK Wildcat, current New York Knick Josh Harrellson at Rocky Hollow Gym.
Floyd Fannin makes All-American Team
Floyd Fannin was selected to the FBU All–American Team and will play in San Antonio, Texas in January in the Alamo Dome.

Parent Teacher Warrior Council Meeting
There will be a meeting of the Parent Teacher Warrior Council on Monday, November 21st at 5 p.m.
